Quick Movie Review: Draft Day

Have you ever wondered what the big day was like? No, not your wedding day or the birth of your child. I'm talking about the most important day of American football…. Draft Day. Draft day is a mystery to us normal fans. We don’t know their draft boards or how they scouted, trade offers, and many other facets of the process, but the accurately named movie, Draft Day helps to clear up some of mystique around the day. The movie helps to show how the general manager, the coach, the owner and everyone else involved, work together to make a dynasty.

If you're into sports drama, this movie is for you. The movie takes place the morning of the draft, and the heat is on Sonny Weaver played by Kevin Costner. He's the general manager for the Cleveland browns and he's in the middle of typical general manager things; calling prospects and talking to their scouts. Basically giving us a front row seat on important things that managers do before the draft. Although that would be a great movie on its own, Weaver also ends up dealing with a lot of family issues outside of the game.

The movie is incredibly fast paced. Everything in the 2 hour movie takes place over the course of a single morning, so it only makes sense that they would try to get each scene out as fast as possible. If you're looking for filler, look elsewhere. Because of the small time frame, every single scene is hard hitting. The acting was incredible. Kevin Costner's lead role was full of passion and emotion. It was difficult not to get sucked into his forthright role. The synergy between the other actors and their roles was fierce and powerful at times. Altogether, Draft Day is a forceful tsunami of constant sports drama that will leave you at the edge of your seat.

Overall the movie is worth seeing, even if you’re just a generic sports fan. Hell, even if you're not into sports, the drama is enough to keep anyone interested. This powerhouse of a movie is a perfect blend of fast paced drama and informative sports dialogue that will leave you wanting more.

Final Verdict:
9.5 Footballs out of 10
